Maddie lives in a world where everything is done on the computer. Whether it’s to go to school or on a date, people don’t venture out of their home. There’s really no need. For the most part, Maddie’s okay with the solitary, digital life until she meets Justin. Justin likes being with people. He enjoys the physical closeness of face-to-face interactions. People aren’t meant to be alone, he tells her.
Suddenly, Maddie feels something awakening inside her a feeling that maybe there is a different, better way to live. But with society and her parents telling her otherwise, Maddie is going to have to learn to stand up for herself if she wants to change the path her life is taking.
In this not-so-brave new world, two young people struggle to carve out their own space.
Review
First off this is the first book I have read with my Kindle, which I think is pretty cool! I'm still debating wether the kindle or real books are better though. Ok on to the review,This is the Story of Maddie and Justin as told by Maddie. You see Maddie lives in the year 2060, where everything is virtual, even school thanks to her Father. Maddie has always been a little resiliant to the whole thing, and got into some trouble for it. Then Justin, who is my faveorite character, comes into the picture telling her that she was right live shouldnt be lived in front of computer screens, and teaches her all about the secret societys and awakens her.
I love this book at first it took me a while to get into, because the beggining was a bit slow, which I think frankly happens in most books. Its was one of those books that once you get into there is no going back, you just have to finish it. Perhaps all teenagers should read this, to show them the dangers of technology.
Awaken gets a 4 out 5.
